How Do I Locate DNS Information

Terms:

• Domain Name Service: The postal service of the internet. They turn an internet protocol number into a name - and let you "point" that number to your website. But it also lets you manage multiple names, where your email gets delivered, and more.
• Web Host: Where your site is physically loated. Sites created by NPower Seattle are hosted at www.sixfeetup.com. Other common providers include www.dreamhost.com, www.1and1.com, and www.crystaltech.com.
• Domain Name/Domain Registrar: The agency that sells you your name. You generally pay an annual fee to this agency.

Note: Sometimes, one vendor will perform all three of these tasks for you. But you might also have 3 different vendors!

Using GoDaddy To Find Information:

• Visit www.godaddy.com.
• Type yoru domain name in the "start a domain name search" box
• It will probably tell you the name is already taken - but click on the "click here for info" box
• You'll get a new browser window with "whois" informaiton in it, like this:
